Membership
Maryland Student Branch Membership
Joining BRES is simple. All you have to do is come to our meetings and participate in our activities. Thanks to our recognition by the Student Government, we have university funding and as a result have no membership fee.  Enjoy all the benefits of membership (pizza, subs, and soda at the meetings, discounts to BRES sponsored events, great field trips and activities) for free!

The society has long been associated with ASAE, the Society for Engineering in Agricultural, Food, and Biological Systems.  As the society grows to include the biomedically inclined part of the department, in addition to the agriculturally and ecologically inclined students, the society will eventually become the student branch of both ASAE and BMES.

Biomedical Engineering Society
BMES was created to "promote the increase of biomedical engineering knowledge and its utilization."  The Society has several conferences and publications, including the Annals of Biomedical Engineering and the BMES Bulletin.  Members receive
free subscription to the BMES Bulletin, the annual BMES Membership Directory, member rates on subscription to the Annals of Biomedical Engineering, discounts on registration fees at BMES meetings, advance notice of all BMES-sponsored meetings and events, privilege to hold office in the Society, and voting rights in the annual election of Society officersMore information about BMES can be found at http://mecca.org/BME/BMES/society/index.htm and you can print out an application form here.

National ASAE Membership
The Society for Engineering in Agricultural, Food, and Biological Systems is presently the parent professional society for BRES, the Student Branch of ASAE. Student membership offers a way for students to participate in a national engineering society.

Student members can participate in national and regional ASAE meetings. They are also eligible for departmental scholarships, reduced registration fees at ASAE meetings, and for design and paper competitions. Annual student membership is $15.00. The application form is available in the Undergraduate Lounge or by clicking here.

Institute of Biological Engineering (IBE) Membership
The Institute of Biological Engineering is an organization dedicated to fostering interest and inquiry into biological engineering in the broadest and most liberal manner. Anyone with an interest in the interactions of engineering with biological systems (including medical, pharmaceutical, fermentation, food, bioenvironmental, and others) can join. Dues are $75 per year for nonstudents and $10 per year for students, although IBE makes no distinction between student and nonstudent members. Information about IBE membership and activities can be obtained at http://www.ibeweb.org. The application for joining IBE can also be found here.

Some members of BRES may also qualify for membership in Alpha Epsilon.  Alpha Epsilon is the Honor Society of Agricultural, Food, and Biological Engineering.  Chapters can be established in any department that emphasizes agricultural, food, or biological engineering.  Juniors in the top one-fourth of their class and seniors in the top one-third of their class are invited to join.

The Constitution and other information about Alpha Epsilon can be found at http://engr.uark.edu/~bpm1/alpha_e/.
