DC OUTFITTERS

Trip Details

What we do each trip

DC Outfitters make five trips a semester to the DC Federal Triangle area.  The trips are usually spaced two weeks apart on Friday evenings.  We leave campus at 4:30 pm and usually get back on campus by 9:00 pm.

We leave from Lot HH, across from the Stamp Student Union, at 4:30 pm and catch the College Park Metro bus to the metro station.  Each member will need about $4.50 for Metro fare.  We take the Metro to the Federal Triangle station on the yellow/orange line and proceed to the Ronald Reagan Building, where we eat dinner at the food court until 6:30.  We then gather in front of the Old Post Office across the street from the Reagan Building, where we meet up with DCO officers Sabrina and Jess in the university-owned van, containing clothes for distribution. We are also joined by the Gettysburg Chapter of DCO who accompany us on most of our trips.

We then split up into four smaller groups and head out on four routes, targeting McPherson Square, Freedom Plaza, Federal Triangle, and Lafayette Park.  Each group, led by a DCO officer, will have trash bags containing clothes, toiletries, underwear and socks for distribution.  As we walk on our routes and encounter homeless people, we approach them and offer clothes and toiletries.

If you or your group would like to join us on a trip, please contact one of our officers with details.
