Sri Krishna Shastry, is one of the founders of Samskrita Bharati which was started over twenty years ago to popularize Samskritam and bring it back to the mainstream. By following a unique and effective method of teaching Samskritam through conversation, Samskrita Bharati (SB) has reached out to over 4 million people, and trained over 10,000 teachers.

Sri Krishna Shastry has received numerous awards, such as "Saraswata Sudhakara" and "Yuva Shakti Puraskar". He has been awarded the title of "Shastri" by the Rashtriya Samskrit Samsthan, New Delhi and is one of the youngest scholars to have been felicitated by the Kashi Vidwath Parishad, the foremost body of Samskrit scholars in India. He is an inspirational speaker and is the author of several Samskrit books.

Samskrita Bharati is present on campus as a student group, UMD Samskritam. Free regular sanskrit classes are conducted in the area.
