Our Mission is to expand the knowledge on Latin American cultures. Through social, athletic and cultural activities, we plan to educate, celebrate and spread awareness about Latin America's cultures, in a way that unites members of our community from various backgrounds. We also seek to provide guidance to incoming international students from Spanish-speaking countries"

Enlaces Latino-Americanos (ELA) es un grupo estudiantil de la Universidad de Maryland, en College Park que establece alianzas sociales, culturales, y deportivas con Latino América y el area metropolitana de Washington DC. El grupo busca a través de distintos tipos de actividades, educar, celebrar, y concienciar a sus miembros sobre nuestras raíces y costumbres hispanas. Fuera de eso, ofrecemos a estudiantes internacionales accesorias y soportes académicos para hacer su adaptación a la Universidad mucho más fácil.  Todo el personal de la Universidad de Maryland esta cordialmente invitado ha asistir a nuestras reuniones.

Text Box: Cultural Committee This committee organizes events and projects that explore different aspects of Latin American cultures. We put particular emphasis in music offering salsa and tango classes. This committee also screens documentaries and movies to promote discussion on Latin American art, media, and traditions.                               Director:Rafael Merchan           email: rafamerchan@yahoo.com

Text Box: Political Committee: ELA believes in the importance of being politically active in local in international issues. We organize events that involve discussion on depths on subjects ranging from the drug policy in Colombia and democracy in Latin America, to leftist government in the Andean Region and Chavez. Our discussion are enriched by guest from out campus or the metropolitan area.

Text Box: Athletic Committee: In the interest of maintaing physically active while on campus, ELA Athletic Director Mirian Ramos has decided to participate with UMCP Campus Recreation Services to offer all ELA members the sports available throughout the University. All sporting events have been paid by the University student's fees. These events are designed for networking and leadership purposes. Director:Luis Hurtado    luis1985@umd.edu

Text Box: Press Committee In the interest of expressing our First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, ELA Press Director Mirian Ramos will lead the committee members to ensure all UMCP Latino current events are published in the all available local newspapers. The committee members will have the opportunity to publish their writing for the intellectual enrichment of the community.
