Goals
The purpose of the Ethiopian Student Association is to provide a platform for Ethiopian
students at the University of Maryland College Park to interact with others that
share the same cultural background. Furthermore, to raise awareness and stimulate
discussion of current economic, social, and political conflict in Ethiopia, and
generate funds as well as ideas to help alleviate the problems identified to assist
in the development of the country. In addition, the organization shall assist in
efforts to raise awareness about issues that affect the African-American community
as a whole through collaboration with other multi-cultural student groups here at
the University.
History The Ethiopian Students Association at Maryland has been an active chapter for the past few years. We have held several events that brought our community together for cultural enlightment, networking opportunities. Some of our notable events from the 2005-2006 school year were the Fall cultural show, ESA summit, traditional dancing performance at African Students Associaion(ASA) cultural show and Saturday tutorial program at Debre Selam Kidest Mariam Church.
