Intern Testimonial

"The SLAO internship has been such a great opportunity.  Not only have I had the opportunity to help fellow students resolve their legal issues, but I've also gained valuable experience and knowledge about the law."
    - Lauren Rodriguez, SLAO intern Fall 2005

Our internship program allows students to gain valuable hands-on experience while earning course credit.  Each semester, our office hires between 8 and 10 student interns per semester, each working approximately 6 hours per week.  The interns interview clients, gather information, perform legal research, consult with the attorney, draft letters and other legal documents, under the supervision of the attorney and complete whatever work may be necessary to reach the desired goal for the client.

This is an excellent opportunity for students considering a law-related career, or any student who wants to use and develop his or her writing and interpersonal skills to help their peers.

At the end of each semester, interns are afforded the opportunity to apply for the Student Defender Program as long as they meet the criteria.

To be eligible to apply for this internship, students must have at least 56 credits and a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Additionally, you must submit an application by the deadline and complete an in-person interview.
