Have you been charged by the University for Code of Academic Integrity, Code of Student  Conduct, or Resident Life Rights and Responsibility Violations?

If so, the Student Defender Program is available to assist you in campus judicial board hearings or conferences.

      About the Student Defender Program
Student Defenders are undergraduate students attending the University of Maryland.  They provide assistance and representation at campus judicial board hearings and residential conferences for students accused of violating provisions set forth in the Code of Academic Integrity, Code of Student Conduct, and Resident Life Rights and Responsibilities.  Student Defenders are hand picked from a select group of students who have previously interned with the Legal Aid Office.  They are familiar with University procedures and maintain high levels of confidentiality.

Responsibilities
The Student Defenders will be responsible for assisting the client in preparing for the hearing, acting as an advocate during the hearing, and assisting with any necessary appeals.  While Student Defenders can advise students who have been asked to attend a preliminary interview, they do not provide representation at the interview.

Student Defender Hours:
Walk-in Hours are from 10:00am - 4:00pm Monday thru Friday during the Fall and Spring Semesters.  Winter and Summer Hours vary, so please call in advance.

Employment Opportunities
In order to be considered for the Student Defender Program, the student must have successfully completed an internship with the office, be able to dedicate 2 semesters to working in the office, submit an application, and complete an in-person interview.
