LSU Committees

Latino Students
Advocacy Committee (LSAC):
The purpose of the
advocacy committee is to include, empower, and educate members of the
campus community on the political issues affecting the Latino community at
large. Two years ago, LSAC was successful in advocating for the creation
and hiring of a coordinator for Latino Students Services and Advocacy to
address the student affairs needs of all Latino students. This year the
LSAC will take on a new project to pursue positive change in the Latino
campus community in conjunction with the University of Maryland
administration.

Community
Service:
Consistent with our
goal of working towards the advancement of all Latinos, the LSU engages in
several community service programs. Most prominently, the LSU works with
local Latino High School students to encourage
them to pursue higher education opportunities.

Fundraising:
In order to continue
providing the student body with diverse events, LSU has fundraisers such as
car washes, working concession stands at sporting events, fundraising
dinners, Latin American food sales, and raffles. The fundraisers not only
increase LSU funds but are also a great way to get to know the LSU members!

Freshman Council:
In its fourth year
of exsistence, this program was established to
give incoming freshmen the chance to develop leadership skills in
preparation for taking positions on the future LSU executive board. These
skills are developed through the planning of a spring event. Last year the
freshmen council put on the incredibly successful and entertaining "Battle of the
Classes" spring event.
