About La Unidad Latina
La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Inc. is a volunteer- driven, Latino fraternal organization founded in 1982 at Cornell University. La Unidad Latina was initially established to address Latino Issues that academic institution often ignored or were unaware of, such as cultural awareness and academic retention. The original 13 founding members of the organization witnessed a lack of services, as well as the absence of a support mechanism for Latino students in college.
Since its inception, La Unidad Latina has expanded throughout the East Coast, Mid-West, West Coast, and created alumni chapters providing networking opportunities and social events for Hermanos in Texas, Chicago, New Jersey, New York City, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Buffalo, Providence, Orlando, Miami, Atlanta, and Washington, D.C. Every undergraduate chapter has become a leading organization on its respective campus, pursing the fraternity's goals of academic excellence, community service, cultural awareness, and social consciousness.
Currently, our organization extends to the campuses of over 70 prominent undergraduate academic institutions and 13 alumni/graduate entities in most major American cities. La Unidad Latina is the only Latino Fraternity to have chapters established at all 8 Ivy League Universities.
In the Fall of 1995, La Unidad Latina was established at the University of Maryland by 9 men of different backgrounds, but with the same goal of fulfilling the needs of our community, on December 10th, 1995.
La Unidad Latina has over 1,500 + members nationwide, which include undergraduate and graduate students as well as businessmen, teachers, managers, lawyers, politicians, doctors, engineers, and entrepreneurs. With a high level of quality in its membership and its association with the most prestigious institutions of higher learning in the Unites States, La Unidad Latina has become a leading Latino fraternal organization.
