*The Pitt Mafia was composed of Dwight Kidder, Mike McElroy from
Carnegie-Mellon, and a player from Pitt (sorry I do not know your name).**Georgia State left at lunch time, after the prelims, so Maryland fielded a second house team to take their place. All ties were broken by head-to-head. The top four teams in each prelim bracket made the top playoff bracket, where they squared off against the opposite four teams. The rest were placed in a consolation bracket, where teams played 4 out of 5 teams from the opposite bracket (a system done similarly to AFC-NFC regular season interconference schedules, if anyone understands what I'm talking about).

Virginia MastersMaryland 1We finished in second place, with only a loss to the Waters/Hilleman team.
SPECTRESPECTRE finished with a 9-2-1 record for third place. Arthur was Dr. No, Scaramanga was Zeke, Goldfinger was Adam, and Vacca was Blofeld.
Fred Sanford Trash TournamentGorditas! Gorditas! Two current MAQTers and two geezers travelled to Virginia for a seven-team trash tournament. They finished 10-2 in the double round robin event, splitting with Georgetown/Pickrell (8-4) and the Gerbils, who also finished 10-2 but won on head-to-head point differential.
Heinrich BollMaryland went undefeated until the last game, where we lost to USC on a tiebreaker. But we still won the tournament.
Princeton Buzzerfest IIMaryland AAfter a first-round loss to Harvard B, we beat everyone else, including Harvard B again in the finals.
Maryland BJohn and Zeke played in 9 games, and everyone else played in 6. The team finished 6-2 and then lost in the quarterfinals to Swarthmore.
Maryland XMaryland X placed 6-2 in the round robin, and then lost in the quarterfinals to Maryland A (yes, some tournaments actually still use single elimination playoffs).
GWU JWB SMUTTMaryland won, despite taking an opening-round loss to UMBC A. The team won its next seven games to go 7-1, defeating GW in the final.
Terrapin InvitationalMaryland House AThe house team finished with a 9-3 record for third place. Christine could only play in 4 games, while the rest played in 12.
Maryland House BThere was an impromptu second Maryland team after Georgia State decided to leave the "turtle" tournament, as they put it on the quiz bowl mailing list. They finished with a 2-2 record on the playoff packets.
PSU NLITMaryland AThe first team went 11-1 in the round robin, then won the tournament by defeating Penn.
Maryland BThe B team started with a 5-1 record, then lost the next six games.
TRASH RegionalsChallengers of the UnknownThis geezer team finished with a 7-4 record.
Open Up and Say Buzz!We finished 8-3 for seventh place, including demolishing the other three teams in our playoff bracket. We somehow managed to survive the abundance of country music and crappy modern non-trash authors.
NAQT Mid-Atlantic Conference ChampionshipMaryland AThe A team went undefeated, and beat Virginia in a very unnecessary final. Hell, we could even afford 3 1/2 negs per game. And I don't care what Tim Young says, I won that damn neg title and led the field in points destroyed!
JHU Blue Jay BashMaryland AThe questions were pretty much what was expected (although the tournament did bill itself as modified ACF). The "A" team finished 8-3 for 2nd place.
Maryland BThe B team finished 10-1 for first place, losing only to the other Maryland team.
Georgia Tech MLKMaryland AMLK was very enjoyable this year, thanks to Carol's editing and the extremely competent moderators. We are glad, however, that we played the exhibition team on the "stump-the-chump" round. Anyway, we won with a 12-2 record, with a close loss to Chicago and the aforementioned loss to Jim, Patrick, Mike Musgrove, and Don.
GWU JCV 5Maryland C=C=CMaryland C=C=C finished with an 8-4 record.
MD Pretty Fly (for a White Guy)With a 9-3 record, Pretty Fly ended up in fourth place, and featured the return of Dave Vacca after a fairly long absence from UMCP teams.
MD Your Team Name SucksYour Team Name Sucks beat Virginia Tech in the final.
Penn Bowl VIIIMaryland AMaryland A made it to the semifinals, only to lose a very close game to Chicago in the now-infamous Samer and his evil twin tag-team moderating fiasco.
Maryland BMaryland B went undefeated in the round robin, and lost in the first game of the single-elim playoffs.
NAQT RegionalsMaryland AMaryland A finished undefeated through a 12-game round robin and a final match against Virginia.
Maryland BMaryland B finished with a 10-2 record.
ACF RegionalsMaryland AThe A team lost to Virginia and the Old Dudes, but defeated Virginia in the finals.
Maryland BWell, Maryland B didn't win any games, but they came pretty close a few times.
Beltway BanditsChallengers of the Unknown
Trash Talkin' SOB'sTTSOB went 5-4, including a close game against the Gerbils and a loss to Pickrell.
A Bunch of Gay Cowboys Eating PuddingThis team went 2-7, finishing in the always-exciting circle of death for last place, and losing to a team consisting of Brian Hight by himself. Yeah -- we blew, though not literally.
USC GamecockMaryland AThe A team lost to Virginia Tech, and left after 11 hours because we had only played 11 rounds, and our last two opponents had already left.
QOTC VIIIMaryland EntitlementThe A team went undefeated in the round robin, but lost two games in the playoffs for a third place finish and a 9-2 record.
Maryland BThe B team finished undefeated, including a 380-25 smacking of Harvard in the finals, to win the tournament.
NAQT NationalsMaryland AAided by the rather mediocre quality of the questions, the A team was playing rather poorly, so we probably deserved to end up where we did (5th place). It would have been nice to play Chicago, though.
Maryland BThe B team finished in 12th place.
ACF NationalsMaryland AWe finished 14-4 for 2nd place, including a last-round game against Chicago that took a collective effort by our team to lose.
