The Maryland Academic Quiz Team has found success at a number of recent tournaments. A team consisting of Jonathan Magin, Charles Meigs, Chris Ray and Mike Bentley took first place against one of the best fields in the nation at the 2008 Cardinal Classic at Stanford University on Saturday, February 2nd. At Penn Bowl on January 26th, 2008, Maryland's A team finished first overall, losing only one match the entire day. The team also finished first in the 2007 Titanomachy tournament held at Maryland, and at Princeton's PARFAIT tournament.

We have hosted a number of recent tournaments, including the 22nd annual Terrapin Invitational Tournament, the 2nd annual Chris McCray Tournament for Academic Excellence, and This Tournament Goes to 11. In the spring, Maryland will be hosting its annual Spring High School Classic Tournament, and a currently unnamed college tournament. There are tentative plans to host a second version of the Atlantic Seaboard Skirmish in the late spring or early summer.

The Maryland team sent to the 2007 Chicago Open finished fifth place, winning the unofficial undergraduate title. The team of Jonathan Magin, Chris Ray, Mike Bentley and Jeremy Eaton went undefeated in the lower bracket of the playoffs to capture the title.

Our Division II team won the 2007 NAQT ICT Division II title earlier this spring with a team consisting of Chris Ray, Jeremy Eaton, Curran Muhlberger and Zach Hommer. The team sent to last year's ACF Nationals in Nashville, TN also fared well. That team, consisting of Jonathan Magin, Chris Ray, Phil Durkos, Michael Bentley and Brittany Clark finished strong amongst a competitive field. Most of the matches from that tournament can be heard on the Quizbowl Cast, which also contains several other tournaments that the team has comepted in during the year.
