The organization:

The Maryland Brazilian Society (MBS) is a student organization located at the University of Maryland, College Park. Founded in 2003, MBS is committed to fostering knowledge of Brazil and creating an environment where Brazilians can interact with each other and with other members of the community interested in our country. The MBS intends to be a reference for the academic community engaged in research related to Brazil.

Our Objectives:

Social/Cultural

·      Form a network of Brazilians on campus (students, staff, faculty, alumni);

·      Provide support for arriving students;

·      Interact with people interested in our culture;

·      Foster knowledge of Brazilian culture;

·      Collaborate with the Brazilian Embassy in DC and the BACI;

·      Bring cultural activity, traditionally restricted to DC, to Maryland (movies, theater, music, discussions and prestigious speakers);

·      Help the numerous students on campus who are learning or have learned Portuguese as a second language.

Academic

·      Promote discussion among Brazilian students and faculty about their research interests;

·      Welcome the academic community interested in Brazil as a subject of study;

·      Monitor and match available financial aid adequate for our community’s needs.
