The Maryland Figure Skating Club began at UMD in 2004 and became a club sport in 2007. We welcome skaters of all levels. The club is comprised of two teams: a freestyle team and synchronized skating team.
At UMD, we would like to emphasize that school comes first, followed by skating. We would like for the experience to be fun and the rink as a place to get your mind off academic stress. The experience is more important than the results.
This year, the freestyle team hopes to return to the scene of intercollegiate competitions with a bang while the synchronized skating team hopes to wow the Open Collegiate level once again.
2nd Annual Skate with Maryland Weekend registration CLOSED!
The Maryland Figure Skating Club will be hosting its 2nd annual Skate with Maryland Weekend March 10-11. Interested high school skaters are highly encouraged to participate in this fun-filled weekend at one of the top public schools in the nation! Intercollegiate Competition Reentrance
The freestyle team reentered intercollegiate competitions after a few years of hiatus. With only seven skaters, they placed tenth out of 22 teams at the MIT Intercollegiate Competition held February 17-18, 2012. Way to go!
Synchronized Skating 2012 Recap
The synchronized skating team began the season with a tentative performance at the Capitol Critique in November 2011, but finished in a solid, sixth place at the 2011 Dr. Porter Synchronized Classic. After an intense Easterns Bootcamp week, they put on an energizing, expressive performance at the 2012 US Synchronized Skating Eastern Sectional Championships, earning third place in the Open Collegiate division! Freestyle is Finally Here
This week marks the first week of freestyle practices! Our freestyle team is ready to get into shape for the upcoming intercollegiate competitions in February and March. Intercollegiate world -- beware! Go Terps!
Eating Towards a Fundraising Success
Our sychronized skating team raised $238 at their Panda Express Fundraiser last Friday, October 14. They raised over double the expected goal of $100! Thank you for those who came out and supported us at the fundraiser while eating yummy food. This was a terrific start to fundraising!
Jumping into Synchro
Our synchronized skating team kicked off the season with Choreography Weekend, October 1-2, 2011. The Weekend was both fun and productive! The team seems to have started with the right rhythm and hold great potential for the 2011-12 season. Open Collegiate -- here we come!

For our 2012 season, the sychronized skating team will compete at the Open Collegiate level and the freestyle team will jump back into intercollegiate competitions. Get ready to represent the University of Maryland! Go Terps!
