Founded in 1986, the Maryland Tae Kwon Do Club is the oldest tae kwon do club on campus. Maryland Tae Kwon Do is the largest OCP-recognized martial arts club on campus and the only tae kwon do club focused solely on instruction.
We meet Friday 7:30-9:30pm in HHP 0107. That is the Health and Human Performance Building (formerly the North Gym) Matted Gym. Classes are forming now. You don't have to be at every class, but we cover material quickly. The more chances you have to see it, the better.
You can join us at any time in the semester but, like joining any class late, it may be difficult to catch up. Taking the belt test, held at the end of the semester, is not a requirement. And, again, the lessons are free.
Lessons are free, paid for by your student activities fees. Come get your money's worth! We get most of our University funding from the Campus Recreation Services.
Wear regular exercise clothes for the first few classes. However, a do bok (uniform) is recommended if you stay for more than three or four weeks; a do bok is required for the advancement test. The club will make uniforms available for purchase.
Funding from the Pepsi Enhancement Fund will help subsidize the price of uniforms for University students.

For those who may wish to know, East-West Taekwondo is recognized by the World Taekwondo Federation and United States Taekwondo Union. The U.S.T.U. is charged as the governing body for competitive taekwondo by the International Olympic Committee. This means that, through our parent school, we can compete in the Summer Olympic Games!
