- End of Semester Alumni Pizza Party

This will be our last event of the year and will also serve as our last SAM meeting. We will welcome the new SAM presidency for next year and enjoy a bit of a break from end of semester studying. Following tradition, we also invite all archives archives alumni to join us. To RSVP and for more information/directions please email Laura Kopp. Pizza will be provided, but please bring a dessert or drinks to share.

This is not a SAM event but relevant to all SAM members. The following is the description of the event which will have special guest archival speakers.
"The symposium will highlight current trends in archival research and
archival education. It will also demonstrate the broader information
implications of archival education and research in areas such as social
navigation, online access, integrative methodologies, and innovations in
archival education to meet the changing needs of archival institutions."

Journalism Faculty Ira Chinoy will come to talk about his class "Mining the National Archives" which will be taught through the College of Journalism during the summer term. This is a class that many archives students have enjoyed taking as part of their program in the past. Professor Chinoy will talk about what the class will cover and some of the projects that previous archives students have completed as part of the class.

- Research Seminars with Jean Dryden and Marie Esteva

Monday-Tuesday, February 4-5, 2008 and Monday-Tuesday, February 18-19, 2008|HBK
While these are not SAM events we encourage all SAM members to attend. Jean Dryden, a doctoral candidate at the University of Toronto, and Marie Esteva, a doctoral candidate at the University of Texas will present their research. Ms. Dryden's research is on copyright and archival materials online. Ms. Esteva's research is on the nature of electronic records. There will be a reception on Monday at 4:30 and the research seminar will be on Tuesday at 10:00 AM. After that there will be an opportunity for students and faculty to meet at 3:00 PM.

Jerry Brito, JD and senior research fellow at George Mason University, will come to speak to students about orphan works legislation and manuscripts. Mr. Brito's research focuses on intellectual property legislation. This is a SAM event in coordination with the ALA student chapter.
