for Separation of Religion from State
College Park, Maryland
Next Meeting: January 2007 TBA in the Edgar Allan Poe room at the Stamp Student Union.
Hello visitor,
Your interest in
issues concerning separation of religion from politics is the
first step towards your involvement in the mission to prevent
the theocratization of American government.
The global spread
of religious fundamentalism is not limited to the Islamists in
the Middle East and Asia. A growing percentage of
Americans seem to be abandoning rationalism in favor of
Biblical literalism combined with extreme right-wing politics.
In many cases, this shift is allowing greed, arrogance and
hypocrisy to overwhelm our ideals of liberty, tolerance, and
freedom.
To our group, Christianity is a friend, and we know that Christian values are important to the majority of Americans.
In fact, one of our primary goals is the building of
alliances with religious groups. We must begin working
together to protect faith from politics and governance from
dogma.
I strongly believe
that the Religious Right and intolerant Christian
fundamentalists do not represent the majority of American
Christians. I also believe that most liberal secularists
can engage in constructive dialogue with Christians. The
nation appears to be splitting apart at the seam of
rationality and fanaticism. Help us find a way to mend
this breach. Send your thoughts and suggestions to
marylandssrs at gmail.com.
Thank you,
Kyle Gustafson
