SSRS Statement of Purpose

To create, support and promote activities which emphasize the importance to America's future of religious tolerance and inclusiveness.  Such activities will generally be guided by the reasonable principle of separation of religion and state based in the Constitution of the United States of America.

To educate the members of the University of Maryland campus and our neighbors concerning the First Amendment and the fundamental origin of the separation of religion and state in America.

To avoid political or religious affiliation of the group, as the principles of religious tolerance and inclusiveness should be independent of party, political doctrine and ideology.

To challenge, by emphasizing the detrimental effects of politics on religion, political or religious movements which tend to ignore or violate religion and state separation.

To cooperate and coordinate with national organizations, including but not limited to, Americans United for Separation of Church and State and the American Civil Liberties Union.

To organize other students at the University of Maryland for the furtherance of our mission.

This statement of purpose was written by Kyle Gustafson and Chris Stark and approved by the body of SSRS.
