"To wake the soul by tender strokes of art, To raise the genius, and to mend the heart; To make mankind, in conscious virtue bold, Live o'er each scene, and be what they behold-- For this the tragic Muse first trod the stage." |

We usually have 3-4 per semester and they are generally free to Theatre students. Contact Chase Helton (Vice Chair of Workshops) with your comments/suggestions. Check back soon...We have a lot of great workshops in store for you this semester!
Professional Casting Agent UTAS has sponsored Brette very semester for the past two years to facilitate workshops on the Business of Acting and On-Camera work. We hope to continue to bring her back to UMD and she has expressed interest in returning to work on Commercial technique and Monologues with students.
Head of Drama, London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art An exploration into the First Folio, the Globe, and King Lear – Rodney has joined us in the Fall semester of the past two years as one of his stops traveling the country. His is an excellent introduction for those who have had little/no training with Shakespeare, and an engaging & informative exploration for those who have.
Invaluable for students looking at professional design/production or grad-school after UMD, Dan lays down the fundamentals of putting together a portfolio of your work.
Yearly, Scot sits down with students and examines what makes for a successful resume and headshot. Students attend the session, and then give Scot their resumes and headshots, to be collected later for feedback.
Our very own Casey Kaleba is known throughout the region for his fight-work. Join him as he teaches the fundamentals of fighting on stage. A new workshop, we will have one this December and are planning a week-long over the Winter break. Check the Undergrad website often for forthcoming details.
This winter, UTAS will join with Scene Shop head, Kim Deane, to offer a workshop for future Theatre teachers about what they need to know about Stagecraft, and working within a constricted budget.
Saturday, March 11 - 11am-5pm, FREE! In this workshop we'll explore some of myriad archetypes and how they effect our life and work as actors and artists and how we can use our knowledge of them to deepen and expand our work as artists. Students should wear clothes they can move around in and bring a journal in which to write.
In the Spring, UTAS will sponsor Leigh in two workshops on advanced voice technique… Check the Undergrad website often for forthcoming details.
